Printed Books vs E-Books

ree

The number of readers has increased worldwide in these times of pandemic, because people find books more as their companions rather than mere stories. E-books have gained a lot of impetus in this new world of technology, but there are still a lot of readers across the globe who prefer to read books traditionally: reading books in the printed form. Long-time readers may not be familiar with e-books, but many who started reading not too long ago may prefer them. All kinds of reading have merits and demerits. Let us look at them:

Points Of Comparison:

Expense

Printed books can be costlier than e-books if you want to own them. Going to a library to read or renting books is not that costly with a printed book. E-books are a go-to option for readers who read a lot of books, but don't have the time to visit a library or to go to a bookstore.

Portability

E-books are less trouble when carrying around as they don't take up a lot of space and are lightweight. Printed books can be heavy as well as they take up a lot of space while traveling and hence, readers who travel often prefer e-books over printed books.

The Feel Of Reading

Printed books provide you the feel of reading as you turn the pages or hold the book in your hands, while e-books don't. Long-time readers mostly opt for printed books rather than e-books.

Sharing Is Caring

Printed books can be shared, donated, or passed down through generations, while the person who purchases the e-books may have access to them only.

Availability

While readers who buy books from bookstores or take them from a library may face the problem of availability of books, e-book readers have no problem finding the books they want to read.

Environmental-Friendliness

We all know that for the production of printed books, we require paper, and for that, cutting down trees is a necessity. This can be harmful to the environment.

Eye Strain

Printed books cause eyestrain, but e-books are comparatively more harmful to the eyes when reading a book.

Distraction

Mind is more focused on reading when reading from printed books, whereas losing focus is easy when reading an e-book.

Text Flexibility

Reading with a variety of fonts and font sizes is appealing as well as they help readers to read in poor lighting conditions. Printed books are more likely to cause eye strain in poor lighting conditions as well as they have a fixed font style and font size.

Reading is a joyful experience. It doesn't matter whether you read from an e-book or a printed book as long as you have a book to read. The reading requirements should suit your style of reading as sometimes one may face problems while reading if the requirements don't match one's reading. Thank You.

I really liked this because I love e-books as well as printed books so I sometimes tend to think a lot when buying a book.
